High conflict parents tend to have lots of professionals on board, but they don’t always play nicely in the sandbox together. In this presentation we will explore the synergy between parenting plan coordinators and mental health therapists in managing high-conflict parents. This session aims to provide professionals with strategies to leverage a collaborative team approach that assists parent to reduce and resolve conflict, respects each other’s roles, and enhances overall family well-being by working together. This presentation will emphasize practical tools which assist in communication, defining roles and modeling mutual respect. Though the professionals may have different roles we will demonstrate how professionals can model effective collaboration and communication for the families they serve. Attendees will gain practical insights into creating cohesive intervention plans, fostering a supportive environment, and utilizing each other’s expertise to achieve amicable and sustainable outcomes.

  • Define and describe the parenting coordinator and identify at least three differences between parenting coordination and other conflict resolution processes.
  • Define/describe the role of various mental health providers; Define/describe the multiple roles and functions of the parenting coordinator.
  • Analyze the interplay between parenting plan coordinators and mental health providers and provide case examples of successful circumstances for dual intervention.
  • Discuss how to use outside experts and resources effectively and describe the PC and mental health provider can function as a collaborative team.
